A beautiful circular system exists between a flower, a bee and our food.
The flower produces nectar, which is collected by the bee and goes on to produce honey. While collecting this nectar, bees also become covered in pollen and transfer this pollen as they move amongst the flowers. The transfer of pollen “pollinates” plants and leads to the production of more flowers, seeds and food for us to eat. The cycle continues over and over, and has done for millions of years.
Our food system would look very different without bees! To help bees continue their vital role, you can plant flowers. Lots of flowers! Flowers will attract bees into your veggie patches and help pollinate the flowers on your fruit and vegetables for a bigger and better crop. As a bonus, flowers are beautiful too!
